About My Business
I have been eating organic and local foods for over 14 years. I'm passionate about all things organic!
I am a fanatic when it comes to reading ingredients labels, and that is how I discovered Miessence products. I have researched hundreds of products and I discovered from personal experience that there are very few products on the planet that compare to Miessence in regards to the integrity of the ingredients.
I know I can trust the organic integrity of Miessence products because of their third party independent organic certification. Third party certification is the highest level of verification there is for an organic product.
I feel confident that there are others like myself who are looking for products that they can trust to be authentically organic.
While there are many "organic" products in today's market place, many companies falsely label their products as organic. I am passionate about the deceptive labeling of "organic" personal care and cosmetic products.
I do the research to verify organic product claims that I see on product labels. My personal motto is leave no stone unturned. You can feel confident in knowing that I go the extra mile to investigate product ingredients to make sure they meet my standards.
In 2005, I became an Independent Representative with ONE Group and started a home based business. This has allowed me the flexibility to be available for my kids when they need me and the resources and time to travel when it is convenient. I get to focus on the things in life that are important to me; my family, volunteering in my community and supporting non-profit organizations.
I am very committed to sustainable business, social justice and the environment. I spend much of my time educating myself about these areas through reading books, blogs, and magazines dedicated to these topics. I am a strategic optimist, a term I heard coined by Kenny Ausubel of the Bioneers when he introduced Jay Harman of Pax Scientific at the 2007 Bioneers annual conference in San Rafael, Ca.
I'm an eclectic, gregarious, and outgoing person. I enjoy spending time with my friends and family; husband, Doug and two kids Maggie age 14 and Locke age 18.
Zambuko, my marimba band
I love being with people and bringing them together, meeting them, talking with them and making connections. I'm an instigator and a community and political activist.
For the past 16 years I have been a stay-at-home mom, homeschooler. organic and local food advocate, "professional" volunteer, community and political activist. I have raised over $150,000 for various organizations through direct donations, product sales, grant writing, and event coordination.

I'm really attracted to all things ethnic, such as old beads, folk art, textiles, jewelry, clothing and world music. I have been playing African marimba music for 8 years and I am in a marimba band (Zambuko) which originates from the Kutsinhira Cultural Arts center, a local non-profit here in my town that I am a member of. In 2002, I produced a CD (Musimboti) of marimba and mbira music from bands and musicians that are part of Kutsinhira.
In August of 2006, I was the "Happening Person" in our local newspaper, the Eugene Weekly. The Weekly also wrote an article about my recent entry into the ideablob contest to win money to create a permanent, year-round indoor farmers market in my community.
Me as a firefighter
Previous to being home with my family, I worked on one of the largest National Forests in the Pacific Northwest. I am also a forester by trade and have a degree in Forest Management. During my 12 plus years with the US Forest Service I worked on many special projects. I used to fight forest fires all over the Western U.S. and was on a Hotshot firefighting crew.
I appreciate all that you are doing to make the world a better place.
